In today's AI age, learning has been disrupted and new opportunities have arisen for both teachers and students. One particular example is how ChatGPT can serve as an exceptional resource for expanding your knowledge and testing your understanding of various subjects.
ChatGPT, powered by the GPT-3.5 architecture, is trained on a diverse range of data and possesses vast amounts of information up until its knowledge cutoff date in September 2021. Therefore, it must always be borne in mind that certain data will not be up to date, missing or inaccurate. That said, students can use ChatGPT to aid learning and test their knowledge of topics as diverse as astrophysics, historical events, cooking techniques, or even football. They can also use ChatGPT to test themselves against what they have read or something that they have covered in the classroom.
ChatGPT can serve as an excellent tool for creating quizzes and for students to challenge themselves on the topics they’ve learned about. By formulating questions and asking ChatGPT to validate their answers, students can simulate a real exam environment, in order to improve retention and recall.
Students should start by typing for example "Learn about UN SDG goals." ChatGPT will then start generating the text for the student to read. This is a very general search, which could be narrowed down by asking ChatGPT to learn about 'UN Goal 2 Zero Hunger', for example.

Students testing themselves using ChatGPT adds an element of self-directed learning and gamification to the learning process. Thereby, giving the student greater autonomy and ownership over their own learning.
Examples of questions and answers generated by ChatGPT can be seen below.

The advent of AI language models like ChatGPT has unlocked new possibilities for self-directed learning and testing. By engaging with ChatGPT to explore various subjects and challenge themselves with quizzes, students can enhance their understanding, improve retention, and continuously advance their knowledge.
